Part 1: Nouns
What is a Noun?
A noun is a naming word.
It tells us the name of a:
- Person
- Place
- Thing
- Idea
Simply put, a noun is the name of something.
Examples: Ali, teacher, book, city, love, happiness
Kinds of Nouns
Examples in Sentences
- The teacher is reading a book.
- Ali lives in London.
- The team won the game.
- Love makes people happy.

Part 2: Verbs
What is a Verb?
A verb is an action word.
It tells us:
- What someone or something does (Action).
- What state it is in (State of Being).
Every sentence must have a verb!
Examples: run, eat, write, is, am, are, was, were
Kinds of Verbs
- Action Verbs
- Show what someone or something is doing.
- Examples: run, dance, cook, write
- Linking Verbs
- Link the subject to information about it (state of being).
- Examples: am, is, are, was, were (Example: She is tired.)
- Helping Verbs
- Help the main verb show time or meaning.
- Examples: has, have, will, can, is running, was playing
Examples in Sentences:
- She runs every morning.
- They are happy.
- He is reading a storybook.
- We have finished our work.

Remember!
- Nouns name things.
- Verbs show actions or states.
- Both are essential parts of every English sentence!
